A 51-year-old man suffered a stroke, causing physical impairment, seriously impacting his life. This led to feelings of depression, loss of confidence, and feelings of powerlessness. During the patient's hospitalization, the author applied the core concept of Miller's power resource to assess the patient's health condition through observation, interviews, and listening. Applying professional, appropriate nursing care, the author helped the patient face his feelings of powerlessness, encouraged him to express his feelings, enhanced his motivation to participate in a rehabilitation program, improved his confidence to overcome obstacles and powerlessness, and helped him find meaning and value in life. Consequently, he gained power and could care for himself well, and return to his career. This case report provides a reference for nurses taking care of patients with feelings of powerlessness. Professional nursing care was applied to achieve comprehensive care. |
