This article described the experience of nursing a twenty-years-old male who suffered right calf compartment syndrome as the result of a car accident. The Eleven Functional Health Patterns described by Marjory Gordon were applied to the nursing assessment. Data collection methods included physical examination, observation, listening and chart review. Three nursing problems were noted: impaired tissue integrity, health-seeking behaviors and deficit of diversional activity. Developing a good relationship with patient and family, the author worked to create care plans, providing innovative and individually tailored nursing interventions aims at promoting self-care ability, early recovery, preventing complications and speeding an early return to social life. |
