Nocturia is a very common problem in women. Nocturnal voiding episode is associated with health status in women. To know the factors associated with nocturnal voiding is important for health care providers. However, the available literature on this topic is sparse. Hence, the objective of this study was to assess the relationship between sleep pattern, fl uid intake volume after dinner, medical history, medications, age, years after menopause and nocturnal voiding episodes per night within the last week. We conducted a cross-sectional face-to-face questionnaire interview of 179 women who were participating in a health screening program at a family doctor practice. The results showed that the mean age of the participants was 48 ± 12.70 years (range 28-81) and among them, 144 (81%) reported nocturnal voiding ? 1/night, 65 (36.5%) reported it ? 2/night and 24 (13.5%) reported it ? 3/night. Using multivariate logistic models, the signifi cant independent correlates of having ? 1 nocturnal voids (vs. 0) was poor sleep (OR=6.06), of having ? 2 nocturnal voids (vs. < 2) were poor sleep and menopause (OR=3.57 and 3.00, respectively), and of having ? 3 nocturnal voids (vs. < 3) were the fl uid volume drunk after dinner > 500cc vs ? 250cc (OR=6.00) and leg edema (OR=4.32). The fi ndings of this study should help health care providers to understand the factors associated with nocturnal voiding in women, allow the provision of appropriate intervention and allow implementation of professional nursing.
