This article describes the use of Watson's theory to care for a child with an open leg fracture and his primary caregiver. The author used this approach to assess the needs of the patient and his caregiver. Using Watson's theory for guidance, the patient's main problems were identified as pain, anxiety, and sleep disturbance. The caregiver's problems were anxiety and fatigue due to caring for the child. The goals of the intervention were to promote comfort, alleviate anxiety, and soothe the caregiver's emotions. During the nursing process, the author gained insight into goals, values and aspirations of nursing care. (Tzu Chi Nursing Journal, 2007; 6:6, 136-143.) |
