Following Schein’s work on process consultation, clinical approach (CA) in organization had been mentioned for application to theory building and consulting practice in recent years. However, how to use this approach to build an academic theory and/or solve a practical issue is confusing. In this article, I described my experiences about using clinical approach to academic researches and consultation works firstly. Then, I argued that two dimensions of CA, altruistic-and academic-oriented, should be separated for the understanding of the nature of CA more precisely. Accordingly, a clinical research cycles (CRCs) and research paths were provided for to explain how to build a theory. As a helping profession, I also pointed out a problem cycle for describing the process of CA in management practice. |
