The study was to explore the stress level of nurses of caring patients with concealed infectious disease. Three hundred and twelve nurses participated in the study. Data were collected by a structured questionnaire during the period between March 4 and 25 in 2005. The results indicated that nurses perceived high level stress of caring patients with concealed infectious disease. The 3 most frequently perceived stress items were worry about needle stick, worry about being infected, and worry about contaminating families. The 3 least frequently perceived stress items were not being able to receive appropriate care if being infected and worry about negative attitude of supervisors or neighbors. Perceived stress differed significantly among educational levels, job positions, and departments. The results of this study provided a reference for hospital managerial level in dealing with nurses’ stress of caring the patients with infectious disease. |
