This case study reported the nursing experience of a patient with buccal cancer during postoperative period. The Gordon’s functional health assessment guide was used to assess nursing problems through direct care, systematic observation, and interview. The nursing problems being identified included impaired tissue integrity, self-care deficit, and disturbance of body image. Nursing intervention included providing wound care, instructing daily self-care, and paying empathy, acceptance, and supportive attitude to assist the patient express his emotional feeling and rebuild his positive selfconcept. After being given the nursing care, the patient was able to face the reality of appearance, structural, and functional changes. This experience provided nursing staff with a reference for caring similar patients in the future. |
