Taking care of patients’ health is nurses’ major mission. However, the busy tasks usually hurt nurses’ muscle and skeleton system as well as influence their physical fitness. The purpose of this study was to understand the general situation of nurses’ physical fitness at a medical center in central Taiwan. This cross-sectional study included 343 nurses whose physical fitness were tested during September and October in 2003. The results indicated that subjects’ average physical fitness was slightly poor. Fifty six percent of their body mass index was slightly thin. Most of their back muscle tolerance (53.64%) and cardio-pulmonary fitness (54.23%) were slightly poor. Most of their soft level was poor (51.31%), but their holding and abdominal power were good, especially those who worked in the ICU and medicalsurgical units. The results of this study provided nurses a reference of self-health management and drew administrative executives’ attention about nurses’ general health status. |
