The purpose of this quasi-experiment study was to explore the effects of exercise and diet education on body weight, physical fitness, and health status. Eligible subjects were recruited by purposive sampling from a hospital. Research instruments included body height and weight measure, blood pressure monitor, accutrend GCT, and self-evaluated health status questionnaire. Subjects received intervention programs including regular exercise and diet education. There were 38 subjects in the experimental group and 40 subjects in the control group.. Each subject received two interviews, physical fitness tests, finger tests of sugar before meal, cholesterol, health status questionnaires before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic, t test, paired-t test and regression. The results showed that the bodyweight, BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar before meal were significantly decreased after intervention. Subjects reported their physical fitness was significantly improved and perception of health status was significantly increased. The research could serve as a reference for designing weight loss program. |
