This case study reported the nursing experience of assisting a neglected child and her families. As a school nurse, the writer used both observation and interview skills to assess the case. In addition, the writers further used genograms, family circle, and APGAR’s family assessment (Smilkstein, 1982) for data collection. The results of nursing problems included impaired parenting, disabled family coping, long-term low self-esteem, being neglected. The nursing strategies included improving parenting ability to take care of children, teaching families to keep internal and external environment clean and safe, and improving child’s self-esteem. The child and her families showed improvement after eagerly participating care plan and were confident in overall performance. This nursing experience is helpful for community nurses, school nurses, and other professionals who concern child health and welfare. |
