This case study reported the nursing experience of caring for a preschooler suffering from Guillain-Barre' syndrome. We used both observation and interviewing to assess the physical and psychological needs of the patient. The results of nursing diagnosis were ineffective airway clearance, impaired physical mobility, altered nutrition, impaired verbal communication, and feared. The nursing strategies included keeping airways clear, assisting case in mobilizing, maintenance of adequate nutrition, communication with case by utilizing picture cards and simple vocabulary, and application of games and stories to reduce fears. Through the construction of fine nurse-patient relationship, the patient showed improvement after eagerly participating body mobilization plan and being able to express himself verbally. |
