This paper focused on the building process of attachment when a primipara suffered from pregnancy-induced hypertension and delivered a premature infant by emergency cesarean section. The participatory method was used to collect data for this case study. Interactions and behavioral processes were recorded during care and analyzed in a narrative form. Subsequently, the data were finalized using content analysis. Results showed that the maternal behaviors were evaluated from three points of view: orienting behavior, evaluating behavior and comparing behavior. The mother encountered the sudden impact of preterm labor and faced the unpredictable future events of having a premature infant. As a result, she appeared to struggle in the progress of being a mother. A nurse can intervene by serving as a consultant, supporter, and caregiver, enhancing the mother's confidence, and helping to establish a positive mother-infant relationship. |
