With the rapid change of technology and integration of design expertise across disciplines, it has become essential to ensure the effective communication between design manager and the multidisciplinary team. This study, with the experiential approach, intends to understand and establish the communication model among the multidisciplinary members. From the literature review, some communication attributes of managers are configured such as (1) design leadership, (2) empathy across disciplines, (3) task abilities across fields, (4) performance evaluation among teams, and (5) execution of strategic plans. Some interviews with questionnaires were conducted with managers from design departments of companies and independent design firms. The results identify some significant communication factors affecting the performances of a design team. Finally, a model is proposed for the design managers to upgrade their leadership and competence of a multidisciplinary design team. |
