In this study ,by using cognitive experiments,we systematically explore the cognitive mechanism involved in style cognition and identification. The result of the cognitive experiments include: (1) identifying the 'typicality effect' in style category membership, and the 'prototype' which is the best exemplar of its category, of Chinese chairs and of Western chair. (2) a certain difference in style cognition exists between the group of designers and non-designers. In pattern recognition processes, the group of designers are based on feature-matching theory, and contrary non-designers are based on prototype-matching theory. Meanwhile, the group of designers get higher accuracy of the style identification than the group of non-designers. Finally by combining the rules derived from the result of the cognition experiments, we propose some feature for aiding formation of the style image. |
