The advent of World-Wide Web (WWW) greatly accelerates the dissemination of the information technology. In the near future, information technology will have an even greater impact on our daily lives through the introduction of 'information appliances,' such as WebTV. Since the target users of these information appliances need not be computer experts, they must provide a user-friendly interface. A study is conducted in this research to understand how people access information on the network, In all, 101 users of current WWW browsers are surveyed by using questionnaires to discover the users' habits and reasons of using browsers, the frequencies of using different browser functions, and major difficulties encountered. The results of the survey are analyzed and summarized for use as reference in interface design of future information appliances. |
