Antral diaphragm of the stomach, either congenital or acquired in origin, is a relatively uncommon condition composed of mucosa and submucosa occurring in the gastric antrum. We describe a 41 year-old male with a history of peptic ulcer disease presenting with intermittent epigastric pain of 2 months’ duration. Both upper gastrointestinal series and gastroduodenoscopy revealed a thin membrane with a wide eccentric opening in the gastric antrum and a deformed bulb of the duodenum with ulceration. Biopsy specimens taken from the gastric antrum showed inflammatory changes without evidence of Helicobacter pylori infection. The patient was treated with a proton pump inhibitor for 2 months. The patient remains asymptomatic. |
