The purpose of this study was to determine the sero-prevalence of HBsAg, Anti-HBsAb, and Anti-HCV antibody among residents in Chang-Hua area. Serum GOT, GPT, and AFP were also tested. Of 7412 voluntary examined persons, the prevalence of HBsAg. Anti-HBsAb, Anti-HCV antibody, and abnormal serum ALT, AST, and AFP was 15.7%, 60.5%, 3.0%, 7.7%, 9.1%, and 0.8%, respectively. Only 0.4% of the examined persons carried both HBsAg and Anti-HCV antibody. The prevalence of serum HBsAg and Anti-HCV antibody was higher among men than women. However, the prevalence of Anti-HBsAb was higher in women. The prevalence of abnormal serum AFP, ALT, or AST value for the Anti-HCV seropositive persons were all higher than HBsAg carriers. The seropositive rate of Anti-HCV increased with age, but there was no association between HBsAg and age. Among 6547 examined persons whose address could be traced, classified by villages and towns they lived, the infection rate exceeded the average of Taiwan in 9 villages for HBV and 9 villages for HCV, respectively. |
