Choledochal cysl is defined as a dilatation of some parts of the biliary tract that may include both intra-and extra-hepatic sites. The first, well-documented case was reported by Douglas in 1852. Choledochal cysts are rare, with a prevalence that ranges from I in 10.000 to 1 in 150,000 live births. These cysts are relatively more common in Japan and Asia, and are more often seen in females. Excision is now the treatment of choice, but postoperative complications such as anastomosis strictures, cholangitis, etc are not uncommon. Relieving, treating or bypassing the bilio-enterostorny stricture via surgery or stent implantation pose a challenge to clinicians. We present two cases of choledochal cysts which resulted in choledocho-enterostomy stricture and cholangitis following cyst excision, and which were successfully treated by plastic stent implantation. |
