退伍軍人症：臺南市立醫院第一個病例報告

Legionnaires' Disease: The First Case in Tainan Municipal Hospital

1976年，退伍軍人症首次在美國的費城被發現。在台灣，第一個病例則是由台北榮民總醫院在10年前發現的。此後，台灣的許多醫院也都陸續發現有退伍軍人症的病例。雖然在這家醫院過去曾有幾個病例被懷疑是退伍軍人症，但總沒有實驗室的檢查給予證實。到目前為止，這是第一個得到實驗室檢查證實的病例。藉此提醒醫生們，退伍軍人症仍有可能在本地發生，只是未被診斷出來而已。

A case of community-acquired pneumonia was admitted to intensive care unit due to complicated respiratory faiure. A day after admission, Legionnaires' disease was highly suspected based on clinical manifestations, and empiric treatment with erythromycin was given thereafter. Unfortunately, this patient died of sepsis and multiple organ failure despite of aggressive medical management. Consequently, Legionnaires' disease was confirmed by serology. We report the case of Legionnaires' disease diagnosed in this hospital.
