A case of ovarian tumor complicating pregnancy treated laparoscopically in mid-trimester was presented. A 25 year-old woman, gravida 1, para 0, with a left ovarian tumor measuring 12×10 cm was found during routine prenatal check-up. Laparoscopic surgery was performed at 17th week of gestation. The patient had a rapid, uneventful recovery identical to that of a nonpregnant patient. Though there are risks and concerns specific to laparoscopic surgery in pregnant women, such a minimally invasive surgery has following benefits. It decreases hospital stay, postoperative incision pain, narcotic usage, and shortens the duration to return to a regular diet when compared with open laparotomy. The advantages and disadvantages regarding such an approach were discussed. |
