This was a qualitative research aiming at understanding the parental decision-making styles and the parental perspectives on making talent education choices for their young children. Semi-structured interview was employed as the mean of data collecting. Parents from 13 families were interviewed. The research found that there were two decision-making styles on making talent education choices for young children: one was domestic division of labor; the other was family harmony. The former meaned that the choice-making was related to domestic division of labor; the latter referred to parental agreement or disagreement. The result of disagreement was not having children attending any talent class and vice versa. As for parental perspectives, the finding indicated that fathers tend to be romantic-oriented and mothers tend to be practical-oriented. |
