This paper describes a nursing experience of caring for a pediatric patient with Kawasaki disease and the patient's family. The period of nursing care was from November 6 to 13, 2012. The Gordon 11 Functional Health Assessment guidelines were used for assessment. Data were collected through direct observation and interview with the patient. The main nursing problems were hyperthermia, altered oral mucous membrane, and caregiver strain. The author established a therapeutic relationship with the patient, provided individualized nursing care, offered companionship to the patient's mother (caregiver), and encouraged the patient's mother to express her anxiety through emotional support. This article can be used as a reference for nurses caring for similar patients. |
