Several labor groups interrupted an on-going conference on ”Dispatched Work” and occupied the podium for 50 minutes on October 20, 2006 at the National Chung Cheng University. The conference was held by the Department of Labor Relations of the University and sponsored by the Council of Labor Affairs. Group leaders tried to challenge the government's attitude toward the issue of dispatched work. This paper explores the action in respects of tactics, legality, and the students' feeling about it. The following findings are based on the authors' observation on the scene and the questionnaires collected from the Department's students. The labor groups may take a multiple responsive strategy, which combines serving, social dialogue and mobilisation. The action they took may violate the Criminal Act and the Social Order Maintenance Act. Most students were not frightened by the annoyance. However, 62% respondents disagreed with the action and 25.8% felt that it had a negative effect on the Department. |
