The recent surge of juridical (not-for-profit) hospitals with alliance management challenges public hospitals in Taiwan. The Department of Health (DOH) therefore proposes several improvement plans, such as privatization, collaborative management, or management contracts, to promote these public hospitals' performance. This study selects one public hospital of DOH, one large public teaching hospital, and one large private juridical hospital from the same region in southern Taiwan as a collaborative management case, and explores coworkers' attitude of these three hospitals toward collaborative management and its relationship with job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The findings of this study reveal that coworkers of DOH public hospital have lower degree of job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and less favorable attitude toward collaborative management than other two hospitals in this case. Senior executives of DOH public hospital should make more effort to understand empolyees' need and attitude, then increase their job satisfaction. More communication and participation are suggested with respect to the collaborative management plan in order to achieve the expected result of organizational change. |
