The dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have attracted increasing interests in recent years. However, the reliability and efficiency of the DSSCs module in prolonged sunshine decline obviously. These problems of dye-sensitized solar cell need to be solved as soon as possible. In this work, we proposed a new activation-method to reuse the dye-sensitized solar cells, and long-term operation of re-activated DSSC module was also investigated. The used dye and electrolyte were replaced with the new dye and fresh electrolyte by desorption-treatment and e-adsorption of dye for the TiO2 layer. Different concentrations of acidic, neutral and alkaline solutions were employed to desorb the dye. The feasibility of the activation-method was examined by UV-Vis spectrometer, field emission scanning electron microscopy and solar simulator. In the summary, this study successfully provides a method for dye desorption/adsorption on TiO2 by using 5 × 10-3 M NaOH(aq) solutions. The NaOH(aq) desorption solution not only shows good desorption property but is also nontoxic. After three desorption cycles, the efficiency decreased from 4.7% and stably remained at 4%. Therefore, this research demonstrates the feasibility of re-using the photoelectrode after long-term operation of DSCCs modules. |
