ORIGIN OF THE ANCESTRAL TEMPLE IN CHINA－(Abridgement)

中國兩千年來關於社稷崇拜的對象，漢儒鄭玄說：社祭土神，勾龍配祊，稷祭穀神，柱棄配祊。但賈逵、馬融、王肅等，反對鄭說，以社祭勾龍，稷祭后稷，所祭皆為人鬼。鄭王兩家之說，後儒多數以鄭說為長。朱子註孟子雲：社土神，稷穀神，可以代表社稷的傳統的說法。

With respect to the objects of worship of the she chi社稷 cult in ancient China，it has been the opinion of the majority of Chinese scholars for more than 2,000 years that she社was in sacrifice to the Earth God and chi 稷 to the God of Grain. In his recent analytical study of this subject，based on historical records and documents，this author has arried at some decisions different from the views expressed by previous scholars.
