民國四十三年，作者在海外月刊發表了中國古代海洋文化與亞洲地中海一文，其中的大意是說明：中國文化是多元的，文化的形成是累積的，最下或最古的基層文化，可說是發生和長於亞洲地中海沿岸的海洋文化，代表這種有化的民族為夷越，或稱蠻貊。

In his article The Ancient Maritime Culture in China and the Asiatic Mediterranean，phblished in 1954，the present author advanced the hypothesis that the Chinese civilization is polygenetic in derivation and accumulative in formation，and that the lowest stratum of it is an Maritime culture，originally developed in the coastal areas of the Asiatic Mediterranean and represented in historical literature by the names Yih夷，Yueh 越，or Man 蠻 Mo 貊。
