ihergo.com is the first website started in 2007 in Taiwan to provide group buying services for Internet users. Because of the novelty of the concept and because group buying is quite different from the usual transactions carried out on the Internet, the website has been reported by many media, such as TV, newspapers, popular magazines of bloggers. These media reports spread the brand name ihergo.com so that its Internet popularity grew very quickly. The total transaction volume in 2009 on the ihergo.com platform was over six hundred million NT dollars. In addition, the website over three hundred thousand members. This case contains two main teaching issues. The first issue is to introduce the phenomena of Internet group buying, including a comparison with ordinary Internet B-to-C shopping and C-to-C e-auction. The second issue is to teach the concept and to learn Internet business operations using ihergo.com as an example of a start-up website. |
