Based on the study of Tai Shen-feng (2009) by examing inmate samples from the correction high school, the present study examed student samples from high schools of Chiayi and we compared differences of possible selves between the inmate group and student group. We asked 197 male students to answer the open-answer possible selves questionnaire and got 160 valid answers. The results suggested that: 1. The student samples answered most hope for selves of “ability and education”, and then “personal relationship”,“physical health”, “demands of important others”. On the other hand, student samples responsed most fear of selves of “occupation”, “others”,”personal relationship”, and ”material enjoyment”. 2. The student samples showed high percentage of “ability and educaion”,”demands of important others”, and ”personal relationship” than the inmates samples; on the other hand, inmate samples showed high percentage of “personal success”,“life of their correction experience”, and “material enjoyment”, than students samples of their hope for selves. The inmates samples showed more fear of selves of “seperation of family”,“family style”, and ”personal relationship” than the student samples. 3. The student samples showed more possible selves about the traditional values, but the inmate samples showed more about their own success. |
