The main purposes of this study were to investigate: (a) effect of parental verbal abuse on delinquency of junior high school students; (b) impact of identity of parental role and locus of control on the relationship between parental verbal abuse and delinquency. The sample in this study consisted of 554 students from 6 junior high schools at Tainan city. In this study, statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and nested regression model analysis. The findings of this study showed that: (a) refusal of parental verbal abuse was related delinquency; (b) youths who were more likely to identify the nurture of parental role had less delinquency; (c) youths who had higher degree of external control were more likely to have delinquency; (d) identity of parental role and locus of control could not limit the relationship between refusal of parental verbal abuse and delinquency. Some suggestions were provided based on the findings of this study. |
