This paper is primarily concerned with the question that given the rapid economic growth and increasing military might, must China become a hegemonic power? An attempt is made to analyze China’s participation in the international society, especially at the United Nations, World Trade Organization and various regional financial and economic organizations, the assumption being that China would be subject to their constraints. We propose to assess the conflicts and confrontations between United States and China over the status of Taiwan, China and Japan over the dispute on Diaoyu Islands as well as China and both the Philippines and Vietnam regarding territorial dispute in the South Sea, to find an answer. |
