Penghu archipelago consists of 97 small islands with the administrative regions of one city and five townships: Magong City, Husi Township, Baisha Township, Siyu Township, Wang-an Township, and Cimei Township. How to properly deal with the waste generated by the local residents has become an important issue. Currently, the waste generated in Penghu County is about 50 tons per day. Some waste goes to nearby landfills. Most of the waste in Penghu, including Penghu island (Magong City and Husi Township), Magong City's offshore islands (Tong-Pan Islet and Hu-Jing Islet), and Baisha Township's offshore islands (Yuan-Bei Islet, Bird Islet, Ji-Bei Islet, and Da-Cang Islet), is transported to the transfer station in Penghu main-island. Then the waste is compressed, loaded into containers, and shipped to Gang-Shan waste incineration plant in Kaohsiung City. In this study, the current status of the waste transfer in Penghu and its offshore islands is discussed, and the issues of its legality, contracting, safety, and transport efficiency are also addressed. |
