Seven-word poem is a treasured literary style from the Tang Dynasty. In early Tang Dynasty, Shen Quanqi demonstrated the sophistication of seven-word poems in his works. However, during this period, poems by scholars such as Li Bai, Cui Hao, Wang Changling, Li hsu, Gao Shi, and Cen Can were few and not influential. It was not until the arrival of Du Sho-ling did the rise of seven-word poem start. His works were profound and extraordinary, and many writers followed his style. In his seven-word poems, Du Sho-ling mastered the previous scholars’ creations and transformed them with his personal style, which is astonishingly impressive.
