“Huang Xu Wo Hou” originates from The Book of Songs ‧ Bei ‧ Gu Feng and Xiao Ya ‧ Xiao Bian. Throughout Chinese history, there have been various interpretations of “Huang”. In Han Dynasty, Zheng Xuan (127-200) interpreted it as “He Xia”. In Ming Dynasty, He Kai (1594-1645) defined it as “Chi”. In Ching Dynasty, Yu Yue (1821-1907) interpreted it as “Kuang”. Although He Xia is the commonly adopted interpretation of Huang, our research concludes that Kuang is more appropriate. |
