The purpose of this case study was to describe the nursing experience of taking care of an elementary school child with urticaria. The caring period of time was from June 29 to July 13, 2012. The child's physical, cognitive, social, and psychological development had been assessed by using observations and interviews. Through direct care and physical examinations, the primary health problems identified included impaired skin integrity, disturbed sleep patterns, anxieties, and strains from caregiver's role. The nursing process focused on applying therapeutic games based on client's habits and providing knowledge and skills to achieve self-adjustment. Through improved nurse-patient relationships, listening, and companionship, the child and his primary caregiver were encouraged to share their emotions with nurses and also obtain accurate knowledge about urticaria and ways to care and prevent it. The primary caregiver's caring abilities was improved and the child’s anxieties and pressures were relieved. The completeness of nursing care successfully achieved the goal of maintaining the patient's health. |
