In the era of globalization, development of"soft power" is a major strategy for national policy in order to compete with other countries in the world. Since the cultivation of cultural and creative talent is the foundation of "soft power", the goals, functions and methods of art education is very useful for developing strategies of soft power. This article examined the situation of art education in Taiwan, calling for an highly attention to relocating the art education into national policy, suggesting the implementation of existing teaching, integration of arts education powers, as well as taking into account the whole life aesthetics and the fullness of arts education. Furthermore, the paper reviewed the background of education for gifted and talented in arts and the related controversies caused by the transition of status in classes for artistically gifted students. Finally, for the current issues, some specific recommendations for improvement were urged. |
