The international community has cooperated in tackling climate change within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC) and its Kyoto Protocol. These treaties provide for institutional arrangements to address climate change. The Kyoto Protocol Stipulates national economy-wide emission cap for developed countries; it also puts in place the ‘Kyoto Mechanisms' in order to allow them to use market mechanisms to achieve their reduction target under the Kyoto Protocol. In addition, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has now become important window for transferring technologies and funds to developing countries necessary for their transition towards low carbon society. |
