Neisseria gonorrhoeae is considered to be most important problem in sexually transmitted disease control because of emerging antibiotics resistant strains that compromise the effectiveness of treatment of the disease-gonorrhea. N. gonorrhoeae has developed resistance not only to penicillins, tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones but also the last available treatment option-cephalosporine in decades. There are verified treatment failure reports to cephalosporine in Japan, Hong Kong, Norway and United Kingdom. Multidrug resistance in N. gonorrhoeae becomes a threat in public health and concern in disease control and prevention. |
