The current paper is to follow and examine the traces of the revaluation of the semantics of emotion in the Romantic period. The approach is primarily founded on the distinction between social structure and semantics and assumes the individualized society to be the structural precondition for the revaluation of the semantics of emotion. Within this structural space, the distinction between inside and outside complements the distinction between nature and civilization and "genius" thus becomes the semantics which expresses the individuality inside an individual, or in other words, which is developed by the art system for expressing itself. In order to couple the system's operation and its observation together, the overflow of feelings (emotion) is then stabilized as a medium which makes the coupling possible. Finally, by demonstrating a historical examination of the semantics, the paper will end up with the conclusion that this kind of development can therefore be regarded as one of the most significant historical achievements of Romanticism. |
